Annual Window Inspection Checklist For Rainy Season

Preparing your house and windows — now — can be the best hedge against an unpredictable season. Below are tips to prepare for all of the water headed our way.

Wood Window & Door Checklist:

1. Inspect the interior and exterior finishes around your windows and doors. Is the paint in good condition? Flaking and peeling of paint mean it’s time to repaint your doors and windows.

2. Inspect windows and doors surfaces for cracked wood and other damage – Your windows wood can get deteriorated due to water penetration or condensation. Don’t forget to check the interior surfaces including floors, wall, or ceilings showing any signs of moisture.

3. Check your windowsills for dirt and other debris – Do you know debris can hamper the functionality and performance of doors and windows? Make sure to clean them from time-to-time. Open windows and use a soft brush to clean that area. You can do the same for your sliding patio doors.

4. Feel for uneven sliding and sticking when you open and close a window. Try using a non-oily lubricant on the opposing finishes. Paraffin wax works well and does not attract as much dust and grime.

5. Check the locks and make adjustments – If locks are not working properly fix them or change them. Locks are necessary as they not only keep you safe from local intruders but also hold your windows and doors tightly to lock out wind, rain, snow, and insects.

6. Check out from any weep holes and breather holes in your windows – Weep holes remove excessive moisture and breather holes let air exchange within certain components. Make sure these holes are not blocked. If blocked, clear them with a wire, toothpick or similar device.

7. Check sealants and caulking on and around all windows and doors. Pay particular attention to areas that can get affected due to water, rain, and extreme sunlight. Remove the damaged area and reapply sealant to fill the gaps.

However, if you can’t fix your window or door, it’s time to replace them. Need professionals for replacement of windows in Arlington Tx? Do share with us in the comments below. Our team will help you find the best professionals for your house windows in Fort Worth.
