How To Install Vinyl Replacement Windows?

Don't know how to replace the windows of your home, let us help you. It might seem difficult, but it's easy if you have the right tools and equipment.

Here is a quick DIY guide to install or replacing the windows:

#1. Take measure of the windows and frames you want to replace

Before you start the replacement process, take a look at window frames. Find out if the window frames are badly in shape, rotten, or the whole unit needs to be replaced. If the frames are in good condition, then all you need is to replace the windows. To purchase a new window for that frame, you should measure each window frame's interior width and height to the side and top to sill. Make sure to check these measurements twice as you don't want to end up purchasing the wrong size windows.

#2. Purchase the replacement windows

Visit your local home-improvement store and buy windows as per the measurements. It would be best to buy a window that is approximately 1⁄4 inch (0.64 cm) narrower than the opening width and height for a correct fit.

#3. Remove the inside trims, stop, moldings with a broad chisel – Once redone, don't throw them.

You can save these items for later use. Also, don't worry if your window doesn't have a stopper. It is because not all windows don't have stops.

#4. Pry out the parting stops of the window

Take your chisel and pry the stops away from the window frame. Once you pull the stops, set them aside as you need to reinstall them after replacing your window.

#5. Remove the bottom and top sashes once stops are out

Once the stops are out, the sashes will come out eventually. However, make sure to lift out the top sash first by pulling it forward and out, and then the bottom sash by pulling it upwards and outwards. Once done, you can dispose of the old sashes.

#6. Caulk the inside and outside edges of the stool

Run a thin layer of caulk along the stool's edges. It will protect the stool protected from water drops.

Installation process
Once the caulking is done, you can start with the installation process of the windows. You can also hire professionals for window installation in Arlington.

#7. Set the new window in the opening

Set the bottom of the window first and lift the rest of the window afterward. Please don't push the window; otherwise, it falls out the other side of the wall.

#8. Now secure the window in place

Once the window's level is set, secure the window in place. Take the replacement screws, and push them in the window sashing through screw holes. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

#9. Install insulation around the window

An insulated window will prevent cold or hot air from entering your home. And you can enjoy the temperature as you like.

#10. Reinstall the molds, stops, and trims

Screw them back at their place, if required. Work gently with the stops as they can break easily.

#11. Paint the window

Once the stops are in place, you can paint the window in your favorite color. Let the paint sit for 8-10 hours to get dry.
